So TWO YEARS ago…

Sitting in a local coffee shop with Ephram, polishing a sermon for Sunday. A young college aged woman at the counter, and I quote, “Yeah, I get it, its just like, that logo was so 2 years ago! I was like, how outdated!” … 😑 … How does the Church preach and reach a generation that considers TWO YEARS AGO ancient history?

Worse yet, if two years ago is ancient and irrelevant, passe, obsolete, and antiquated, how do we bring this ancient message to life for them? It occurs to me that the Church can either convince them to love history the way I do… [uhhhh… good luck with that …] or we MUST show this generation that this ancient message remains alive, bursting, present, pushing me and you as followers of Jesus to live like HIM TODAY.

We must embody the truth their jaded eyes are looking for. We must envision the caring meaningful future their hurting hearts long for. We must care for the widow and orphan the way their blunte- by-the-world, aching for hope, hearts long for.

Be the Church. Be alive, really alive, in Christ. Care for the widow and orphan. Sacrifice this world at the godly altar of Christ-centered meaning. Why so much allegiance to the world? It is presently sacrificing us at its altars of material meaninglessness.

There is more grace in God than there is sin in us. There is also more hope in a life lived for others in God’s name than a life lived for self in my name… “For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk. But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out His anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when He returns, we can live with Him forever. ” (I Thessalonians 5:5-10 NLT)
